Agency transparency benchmark

Agencies negotiate these deals every day. Buyers rarely do.

The benchmark is a supporting initiative under Agencies. It is built from real buyer-side agreements so scope, context and price can be compared more carefully.

Contribute a current or redacted agreement. We review your commercial setup privately and use eligible, de-identified data to improve the benchmark.

Scope before price

A price is only useful when the service is comparable.

Agency retainers can cover different channels, markets, responsibilities, seniority and operating complexity. A similar fee can therefore represent very different value.

Your private review

The agreement can be useful before a market range exists.

Every eligible contributor receives a private buyer-side review. Benchmark ranges are only produced where sufficient comparable data exists.

01What you bought
What the agreement commits the business to buy.Fees · scope · channels · responsibilities · included work · additional work · commitment · renewal
02What looks clear
Where scope, responsibility and commercial structure are explicit enough to compare.
03What deserves attention
Terms, dependencies or definitions worth understanding before renewal, expansion or renegotiation.
04What the agreement cannot tell us
Whether the work is still required, actually delivered and fairly priced for the current operating context.

What the benchmark records

Real agreements, structured for fair comparison.

Price
What buyers agree to pay.Retainers · percentage-of-spend models · hybrids · project fees · additional charges
Scope
What is included in the relationship.Channels · responsibilities · deliverables · strategic versus operational work
Operating context
The factors that make one setup materially different from another.Media spend · markets · complexity · ownership · internal capabilities
Commercial structure
How the relationship itself is constructed.Commitment · renewal · additional work · pricing mechanics · dependencies

When the agreement raises a bigger question

A contract shows what you bought. Delivery and fair value need a deeper review.

An agency review assesses the operation behind the agreement: what the business requires today, what is delivered and whether the current commercial model remains justified.

Questions

Is participation free?
Yes. Contributing an eligible agreement and receiving the initial private commercial review is free.
Will I immediately see benchmark pricing?
Only where sufficient comparable data exists. Otherwise the output is a private commercial review of your own agreement.
Can we redact the agreement?
Yes. Names, signatures, banking details and other information that is not relevant to the commercial review can be removed.
Are you trying to replace our agency?
No. The purpose is a buyer-side commercial reference point. If the current agency setup holds up, that is a good outcome.
